Art Murray was a restaurateur and entrepreneur in Minneapolis, MN. His first invention, in 1946, was a domed ashtray with a “Push-for-Service” light used to signal wait staff in his nationally acclaimed restaurant, Murray’s Steakhouse. Shortly after, he designed the Thermo-Plate® Sizzling Platter to keep steaks hot without causing them to lose their integrity or become overcooked.Other restaurant owners took notice and his serviceware quickly gained popularity. And so began Service Ideas, Inc.

Art’s son, Patrick, joined the two companies in the early ‘70s. He expanded Service Ideas across the nation and extended the product line to include beverage serviceware. Products like the Thermo-Serv® and New Generation® server quickly became industry staples and secured Service Ideas’ position as a superior provider in the service industry.

Three generations later, both Murray’s Steakhouse and Service Ideas continue the long tradition of great service and quality products.
